Year 5 and Year 6 visited one of our Quest trust schools, Hindley Green Community Primary School today to take part in a personal development event hosted by Murphy Group.
The children got to take part in a range of activities designed to teach them about the different elements of the Golborne train station project.
The children were most surprised by procurement and the collective effort that goes into Murphy planning and facilitating their projects. It was clear that a lot of thought and effort had also gone into the event as the children gave feedback that they thoroughly enjoyed it. They recognised links to their learning as they needed to think hard like an engineer, work as part of a team and apply their maths skills to budget for resources to construct a bridge.
Special thanks to our QUEST personal development and employment partnership leads for organising and Murphy Group for providing such a fantastic opportunity for our children to learn about careers in the construction sector. #MurphyGroup

🐻📚 We're Going on a Bear Hunt! 🎨
Today we enjoyed reading We're Going on a Bear Hunt. We then did Drawing Club, where we used our wonderful imaginations to think about how we could trap the bear! 🐾
We came up with some fantastic ideas, including using slime, lasers and nets to catch our bear!
The children loved sharing their ideas, getting creative and thinking outside the box. 💡🎨
What a fun session full of imagination, creativity and brilliant thinking! 🌟🐻

To finish our work for black history month, year 6 produced some advertising posters for his famous "Mr Kite" circus. The circus travelled and entertained the world, but it was said his favourite place to perform was Wigan. He trained and housed his horses in Wigan (just in front of the bus station)

This week Y5 have been inspired by Young Minds Hello Yellow 💛 and our personal development initiativate, Skills Builder.
As a class we have shared ways that we can promote positive well being and mental health recognising its importance for our personal development. The children were excellent ambassadors of our school values and very knowledgeable when it came to advising each other on strategies to improve their mental health and well-being.

This week, Year 4 have been busy preparing to write their very own Anglo-Saxon diary entries!
We explored and identified the key features and grammatical skills needed to write an effective diary entry, including first-person pronouns, past tense, informal language and fronted adverbials of time.
We also put our Speaking Skills Builder skill into action, working together to identify, discuss and define key Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary to help develop our understanding and enrich our writing.
The children are now ready to put their learning into practice as they begin drafting their own diary entries!
